Ontario provincial program that provides health-related items to people receiving Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) funding and people on low income.
Health related benefits include but are not limited to:

- diabetic supplies
- hearing aids and batteries
- hospital beds and mattresses
- custom foot orthotics and orthopaedic footwear
- medical taxi transportation
- eye glasses
- adult day programs and respite

Open to recipients of Ontario Works (OW) and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and people on a low income who are 18 years of age or older and are residents of Ontario.
OW/ODSP recipients who have an email address can request the needed items online at specialsupportsbenefits.hamilton.ca.
OW / ODSP recipients who do not have an email can apply by phone at 905-546-2590 between the hours of 8:30 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
For applicants who are not OW or ODSP recipients, an application form is completed to determine individual or family eligibility. Mail to Ontario Works Mountain Office or drop the form off at Central or Mountain office. A friend, family member, or advocate may assist in completing the application process. Applicants will be asked about: income including CPP, OAS, pension, and other earnings; assets including cash, bank accounts, RRSPs, stocks, bonds, and secondary property; living expenses including rent/mortgage, utilities; and the cost of the special support item.
