Recognition Awards

Organizations that recognize people or programs that have made significant social, cultural, economic, environmental or civic contributions to the community by selecting them as "Mother of the Year", "Senior Citizen of the Year", "Program of the Year" or other honourary title; acknowledge the deeds of people who have distinguished themselves through heroic action; recognize the presence of VIP visitors to the community; or otherwise celebrate individuals who have made a difference. Some recognition awards may involve a monetary component, special access to community events and recreational or cultural facilities and/or other privileges.

 

Services

Offers a series of free public lectures in fields of literature, science, and music. One of the public talks, named in recognition of Dr. John Rae, honours Rae's connection to the Canadian landscape by focusing on a topic related to the Canadian North or the spirit of exploration.

Cultural organization that organizes and hosts a series of public lectures and encourages interest in literature, science, and music.

Awards presented at the Leaders in Literacy Breakfast annually in June.  Open for nominations from January to April each year. 

Specific awards are as follows:

  • Lynne Livingstone Memorial Award

  • Kim Brooks Memorial Lifelong Learning Award

Adult Basic Education Association of Hamilton Office.  Central referral agency for adult education and upgrading.  Aims to improve the quality of life for the Hamilton community through the promotion and support of lifelong learning.  Offers free information and referrals to community programs.

An award given for significant contributions which enhance, protect, or conserve the natural environment in the Hamilton area. The awards include the Dr. Victor Cecilioni award, as well as merit and youth awards.

An annual award that recognizes outstanding women who have made a commitment and a significant difference in their community by showing vision, creativity, and initiative. Nominations are open between November and January. 

Recognizes those residents who, by landscaping and maintaining their property, have contributed to a more attractive neighbourhood and community.
