Semi-Independent Living Residences for Adults With Disabilities

Programs that provide housing in a group setting for adults with developmental disabilities, sensory impairments, physical disabilities, emotional disabilities or multiple disabilities in facilities like small homes, apartment buildings, condominiums or agency-owned complexes which may be staffed to provide functional skills training and on-site supportive services. Residents generally have basic self-help skills or take responsibility for employing and supervising aides to assist them in meeting their personal needs. Staff may be available on a 24-hour basis or only occasionally depending on the specific needs of residents. Included are short-term transitional programs for people who are preparing for supported or totally independent living as well as long-term programs for people who may want to be permanent residents.

Adults with exceptional needs live with a host family in a regular home environment. Offers a support model similar to foster care, where daily individualized support and accommodations, meals and personal care, and emotional support are provided as they would be to any family member.

Hess Street Residence for Baldwin Housing and Community Support Program, operated by the Canadian Mental Health Association. Board and living expenses are shared equally among the residents.

Bay Street Residene for Baldwin Housing and Community Support Program, operated by the Canadian Mental Health Association. Community Support Workers provide residents with flexible and individualized supports to promote and maintain independence and quality of life.

A shared accommodation residence which houses four people with high care needs. Provides 24-hour attendant services, advocacy, and extensive life skills training to adults with physical disabilities.

YWCA Hamilton operates a wide variety of housing options for adults with developmental disabilities, including group homes, residential care facilities, and supported apartment settings.

Provides an opportunity for adults with a physical disability to live in a geared-to-income, fully accessible, one bedroom apartment, with 24-hour access to essential non-medical attendant and life skill support services, including meal prep and eating, bathing, dressing, transferring, continence
