A team of midwives and a physician available to help decrease barriers to prenatal care for women in Hamilton accessing the shelter system, providing 24/7 on-call, mobile prenatal and post-partum care.
This program is for routine clinical care only. For medical emergencies call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room or labour and delivery unit.
Open to all pregnant or post-partum women in Hamilton who are unhoused or are in a precarious living situation.
Front line workers and service organizations can arrange for a pregnant or post-partum woman to be seen by a midwife by paging the Shelter Health Network midwife on-call at 905-561-0738 and asking specifically for “the Shelter Health midwife on call.” The operator will ask for a name and phone number which will be sent to the midwife on-call, who will respond to the page within 10 minutes and arrange to see the client, usually within an hour at the location of her choosing. At the client’s request, an appointment at a later date and time can be arranged.
