Canadian Human Rights Commission Complaints Services

Administers the Canadian Human Rights Act which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, genetic characteristics, family status, gender identity and expression, marital status, disability, and pardoned conviction.

Handles complaints (including sexual harassment) against organizations within Canadian federal jurisdiction and tries to end discriminatory policies and practices in employment and in the provision of goods and services, by means of education and public information programs.

Aims for federally regulated employers to achieve a well represented workforce of four designated groups: women, visible minorities, people with disabilities and Indigenous people. To reach the desired objective, it carries out compliance audits of employers and service providers under federal jurisdiction.

Eligibility

Persons legally present in Canada or Canadian citizens and landed immigrants outside Canada. To file a complaint, a person must have been discriminated against by a federally regulated organization such as a federal government department, agency or crown corporation, chartered bank, national airline, inter-provincial transportation or shipping line, telecommunications company, certain mining industries, railway and others.
