English as a Second Language

Programs that offer opportunities for non-English-speaking and limited-English-speaking adults to learn listening, speaking, reading and writing skills with an emphasis on developing the level of communication competence that is essential for adults who are living in a setting in which English is the primary language. Also included are programs that provide English language instruction for younger people.

 

Services

Offers English classes and conversation circles for newcomers to Canada.

LINC classes provide language training from Literacy to CLB 5 for permanent residents, including Convention refugees.

Teaches conversational English as a Second Language on Tuesday nights for 8-week sessions. 

A six week conversation circle that helps newcomers improve their English. Meets Wednesday evenings, light refreshments provided. 

English as a Second Language and Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada.  Offers a variety of programs to allow students to pursue and achieve their English language proficiency and educational goals.  Class levels are from literacy to advanced with a focus on listening, speaking, reading a

City Learning Centre ESL and LINC for Hamilton Wentworth District School Board Continuing Education.  Downtown location of the English Language Program.  Offers programs in English as a Second Language and Language Instruction for Newcomers. 

    Hamilton Mountain Location of the Immigrants Working Centre in Hamilton.  Provides orientation and settlement, English Language training, employment-related services, and community connections for immigrants and newcomers. 

    East Hamilton Location of the Immigrants Working Centre in Hamilton.  Provides orientation and settlement, English Language training, employment-related services, and community connections for immigrants and newcomers. 

    Downtown East Location of the Immigrants Working Centre in Hamilton.  Provides orientation and settlement, English Language training, employment-related services, and community connections for immigrants and newcomers. 

    Main Office of the Immigrants Working Centre in Hamilton.  Provides orientation and settlement, English Language training, employment-related services, and community connections for immigrants and newcomers. 

    Provides orientation and settlement services to newcomers.  Delivers in-person and online services in 16 languages at 4 locations in Hamilton.

    Eligibility screening, language skills assessment and referral to government-funded English language programs including:
