Refugee Programs

Programs that administer the application, adjudication and appeals process for refugees who want to enter and/or reside in Canada. Refugee claimants within Canada are entitled to remain in Canada until their case has been heard although, in some circumstances, they may be confined to a detention facility until a decision is reached. Also included are programs that provide legal and other assistance throughout the refugee application process.

Services

Under the national Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP), the Government of Canada helps Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) when they first arrive in Canada by providing direct financial support, and funding the provision of immediate and essential services.
