Historical Societies

Organizations that preserve the historical heritage of a particular county, city, township, town or other specific geographic area. Activities include preservation and restoration of historic and archaeological sites located within the jurisdiction; restoration or reconstruction of historical buildings; collection, preservation and publication of local historical material; dissemination of historical information; and promotion of historical work in the community. Historical societies may operate museums, libraries and archives; conduct historical research; study local cultures; and sponsor historical programs and exhibitions.

 

Services

The historical society holds monthly meetings focused on the history of the Ancaster region of Hamilton, Ontario.

A non-profit heritage society that collects, maintains, and preserves the creation and history of the former Townships of Binbrook and Glanford.

A provincial women's service club promotes inclusive and supportive social networking for community action and personal growth. 

Offers educational programs and advocates for social, environmental and economic change.

A volunteer initiative to preserve materials relating to the history and heritage of the former townships of East and West Flamborough and the Village of Waterdown.

General meetings of the Hamilton Mountain Heritage Society, to promote awareness of the history and heritage of the Hamilton Mountain and the surrounding area. Meetings can include guest speakers or be arranged in historic buildings in the area.

Holds regular meetings with guest speakers which cover a broad range of topics about the Hamilton area. Also presents outreach at community festivals, and assists on special projects.

The meetings of the Dundas Valley Historical Society are used to promote awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of local history in the Dundas region of Hamilton. Meetings are held at the Dundas Museum and Archives. Free speaker series held on the second Thursday of every month.
