Recreational Therapy

Programs that help individuals with mental, physical or developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders, chronic health conditions or other problems develop new interests, sharpen their social skills and gain a sense of self-achievement through a structured series of leisure-time activities which may include arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, sports, games, social gatherings and community outings. Therapy goals may differ for different populations, e.g., improved hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills may be desired outcomes for people with physical disabilities.

 

Services

Steps to Health: A health and lifestyle program aimed at preventing chronic disease and enhancing the quality of life for those living with mental illness. Offers programs in exercise, cooking, nutrition, smoking management, and weight management.

Offers programs that assist people with serious mental illnesses, living both in and out of hospital, to gain or regain valued roles through evidence-based rehabilitation. A program of the Schizophrenia & Community Integration Service (SCIS).

Programs include:

Provides assessment, treatment, and consultation services for children with congenital or acquired neurological, developmental and/or multiple disabilities. Services may be provided in several locations.
