Health/Disability Related Support Groups

Mutual support groups whose members are people who have specific disabilities, illnesses or other health conditions, their families and friends. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and provide an opportunity for participants to share information, resources, practical tips for daily living and encouragement about issues related to the disability or health problem.

 

Services

The Huntington Society of Canada offers support groups, events, and chapter meetings. 

Annual free event that brings leading breast reconstruction experts together to give presentations and answer questions. It offers a chance to connect with other women who have been affected by cancer and to view real results of reconstruction in the Show & Tell lounge.

Asthma Canada offers programs and services for those with Asthma and their caregivers. They perform advocacy, education and research in to this disease.

There is information on the connections between asthma and allergies as well as with chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. 

A virtual 8-10 week program that includes workshops, health activities, and guest speakers to assist people living with diabetes and people who may be at risk of developing diabetes to develop skills with diabetes management and improve overall health. 

A free six-week workshop that assists participants in living with on-going health conditions. Areas of focus include stress management, making healthier choices, meeting other people living with similar challenges, and building success with manageable goals. A textbook is provided.
