Hazardous Materials Collection Sites
Programs that sponsor sites where people can bring household cleaners, automobile products (e.g., antifreeze, brake fluid, gasoline, motor oil), pesticides, herbicides, paint products, outdated medicines and other hazardous materials typically found in the household for disposal. Hazardous materials are those that are labeled "corrosive", "flammable", "irritant", "toxic" or "poison" or which react when combined with other substances.
Medical Support Personnel Associations
Organizations whose members are individuals who perform various duties under the direction of a physician or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and have affiliated for the purpose of promoting mutual interests and participating in medical seminars and conferences, subscribing to medical journals and taking advantage of other opportunities for professional development. Members include cardiovascular technologists/technicians, clinical laboratory technicians, diagnostic medical sonographers, emergency medical technicians/paramedics, home health aides, medical assistants, nuclear medicine technologists/technicians, perfusionists, physician assistants, radiographers, surgical technologists/technicians and other medical support personnel.
Expectant/New Parent Assistance
Programs that provide educational and supportive services for new parents or those expecting a child, to prepare them on an emotional and practical level for the impact the newborn will have on their lives and relationships. Initial focus areas include healthy eating for the mother, danger signs in pregnancy, sibling preparation and being ready for labour and delivery, followed by practical information on basic infant care, newborn behaviours, baby supplies, bathing techniques, diapering, breastfeeding and other feeding options, as well as infant and childhood illnesses. Later topics may include walking, talking, toilet training and other aspects of child development, all to help ensure that infants and toddlers are nurtured, live in a safe environment and receive proper health care. Included are programs open to all as well those targeting special populations such as low income individuals or teenagers.
Career Entrance Examinations
Programs that administer examinations that are required to obtain positions or promotions in different professions including civil service examinations or examinations in occupational areas such as accounting, construction, education, engineering, health, law, real estate or social work. Also included are certification programs that test more broadly for basic math skills, oral and written language competency and other fundamentals that are important for success in any job.
Career Entrance Examination Preparation
Programs, which may be available via the Internet, that help individuals prepare for examinations that are required to obtain positions or promotions in different professions. Included are programs that assist people in preparing for civil service examinations or examinations in occupational areas such as accounting, construction, education, engineering, health, law, real estate or social work.
