Mountain Campus, English as a Second Language Classes

Offers English as a Second Language (ESL) instructional programs to adults who have immigrated to Canada. ESL classes available days, nights, and in the summer. International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Language Instruction for Newcomers (LINC), Test of English as a Foreign Langauge (TOEFL) classes also available.

Programs operated through the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) and funded through the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.

Eligibility

Age 18 years and older; Adults who have immigrated to Canada (Landed immigrants, permanent residents, refugee claimants, convention refugees, and Canadian citizens). Must have Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 3 or higher to be eligible for the ESL credit class. Must have one CLB level 4 and three CLB level 5 or higher to be eligible for the IELTS class. Must have one CLB level 5 and three CLB level 6 or higher to be eligible for the TOEFL class.

Call or visit to book an appointment for a language assessment. Assessments are run at the YMCA through the [YMCA Newcomer Settlement Program](trb:///record/HAM2001) Bring your YMCA language assessment to a St. Charles campus along with your immigration documents and a $10 materials fee to register.
