Mental Health Court Support Services

Provides alternatives and options for individuals experiencing serious mental illness who become involved in the criminal justice system. 

This program is comprised of three components:

  • Mental Health Court Diversion
    • Education regarding consumer issues, mental illness, mental health services, and the mental health system
    • Connects persons considered appropriate for diversion to access services and supports
    • Provides consultation to the judiciary on cases referred for diversion
    • Provides consultation for persons not deemed suitable for diversion
    • Support and information for family members and significant others
  • Intensive Case Management 
    • Provides services to individuals who are not eligible for mental health court diversion
    • Helps support individuals with a serious mental illness, a concurrent disorder, or a dual diagnosis
    • Provides outreach, court support, and support plans based on identified need in order to prevent further involvement with the criminal justice system
    • Connections to longer term case management services, rehabilitative programs, medical treatment, accessing appropriate financial entitlements and appropriate housing
    • Support and information for family members and significant others
  • Release from Custody Program 
    • Provides short-term assistance to individuals being released from correctional custody to facilitate a stable transition
    • Connections to longer term case management services, rehabilitative programs, medical treatment, accessing appropriate financial entitlements and appropriate housing
    • Support and information for family members and significant others
    • Consultation for people who are not deemed suitable for diversion
    • Supportive counselling
