Programs that offer a general program of exercise for people who are concerned about maintaining their physical fitness which may include walking, stretching and other similar activities.

 

Services

Offers safe and appropriate exercise programs for participants with heart disease. Supervised exercise sessions are designed to meet the individual needs and fitness levels of each participant.

Offers physiotherapy-based, supervised exercise sessions for cancer survivors.  Exercise plans are individualized based on each individual’s diagnosis, treatment, and recovery status.

Free activities, programs, and workshops for adults 55+, offered by Recreation division and community partners, across the City of Hamilton.

Providing support services for older adults and vulnerable persons, including:

Offers a wide range of registered and drop-in gender inclusive programs for children ages 6 to 13. All programs offer a variety of activities that facilitate conversations around gender-centered issues and provide opportunities to build confidence, self-esteem, and self-advocacy.

Offers free programs for girls, non-binary, and gender-fluid youth, offered both in-person and virtually. Programs are designed to build leadership, self-confidence, resiliency, positive relationships, and teamwork.

Provides community support and case management services to pregnant and parenting youth.

The main components of programming are:

A community-based exercise program for people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Participants are prescribed individual exercise programs that follow the physical activity guidelines for people with MS.

A series of supervised exercise and education programs delivered in partnership with Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University that help individuals enhance their health while managing specific chronic health conditions and illness. 

Offers exercise classes for older adults. Classes offered to suit a range of physical abilities. 

Fitness centre for older adults, with individualized programs designed to meet client's goals.

Falls Prevention

A free exercise program designed to help seniors stay healthy, safe and strong and promote improved balance, improved strength with prevention of muscle loss, maintenance of strong bones and increased overall independence.

SMART (Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together) exercise and fall prevention classes help improve strength, balance, and heart health while reducing both social isolation and hospital visits relating to falls. Classes are available in the community, at retirement homes, or via Zoom.
